Thomas Baekelandt is since 2015 the Belgian Ambassador to Romania and Moldova. Since his arrival he actively promotes the deepening of the diplomatic relations between Belgium and Romania and Moldova. Furthermore, the promotion of economic relations between Belgium and the two countries is a major element of his mission.
He was the Belgian Ambassador to Jordan and Iraq, based in Amman from 2011 till 2015. Prior to this assignment he held responsibilities in counter terrorism and defence policy, and was assigned to the Belgian Embassies in Jakarta, Rabat and Rome, to the Permanent Representations to the UN and NATO, and as Ambassador to Malta in Valletta.
He holds a Master degree in Business administration, major international business, diplomatic and consular affairs from the Leuven University, Belgium.
